Ginger Nuts of Horror
Motherhood of the Monstrous is making a pitstop on its world tour of horror writers. The tour has been a roaring success, but it's time for a rest from the smell of ink and paper, and it is time for a refreshing pint, some hot wings, and some loud music to blow away the cobwebs.
So lets pull of the the literary highway for a moment and chill out with something a little different for Women in Horror Month.
Jess-O-Lantern is a spooky-singer-songwriter, originally from the small town of Ocala, FL and now lives in New York City. She grew up on a diet of 50's Rock n' Roll and Cabaret Showtunes, then when she was 12 years old she was given her first mixtape, introducing her to punk, hardcore, and Horror Punk. Also at the age of 12 she started playing guitar, and began writing her own songs.
So far she has had a long journey of performing solo acoustic shows (billing under her full name), fronted several different bands (from dance-pop-punk, to acoustic two-piece duos, to alternative, to horrorpunk), all before deciding to pursue "Jess-O-Lantern" as her primary focus.
With her love for all things horror and Halloween, coupled with her ten years of professional Haunted House experience, the spooky stage presence and vivid Halloween themes became an obvious choice.
"The one place I have always felt that jolt of energy and passion, has been in the Haunted Houses I have worked on. Especially the Haunt's that gave us freedom of make-up designs. I created my current Jess-O-Lantern stage makeup design from bits and pieces of my favorite Haunted House characters I have played over the years. I wanted to have a creative outlet for horror make-up any time of the year. A valid excuse to buy fake blood in March. A chance to truly live every day like it's Halloween."
Her music has themes of monsters, ghosts, skeletons, graveyards, and werewolves. As well as several songs inspired by horror movies and urban legends, such as The Bride of Frankenstein and The Jersey Devil.
She performs live as a solo acoustic act, but on her most recent album "Rest in Pumpkins" she has a full band backing her on several songs. (With the help of fellow musicians Kris Halpern, Kevin Vonesper, and the band Devil in The Belfry (Brendan Taylor, Jeff Grunn, and Brett Allen) as her backing band.)
