fROM THEIR INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN
THE DARK is a bimonthly e-magazine of dark fantasy and dark science fiction which will be published both online and in ebook format.
In the pages of THE DARK, you will find a different kind of dark fiction. Just that - different. And dark. Not necessarily horror, per se, with blood and guts and serial killers, but fiction that is weird and offbeat; magic realism; the fantastic; dark science fiction (and not your ordinary "robots and aliens" science fiction). No variation is off limits, and we will be encouraging our writers to take chances with their fiction.
Edited by award winning editor, Jack Fisher, every other month THE DARK will bring you a mix of dark and fantastic fiction, featuring a variety of authors—from the bestsellers and award-winners you already know to the best new voices you haven’t heard of yet. We openly welcome new and aspiring authors, and love to showcase brand new talent! We will not be a magazine that publishes only "name" authors, nor will we close our doors to unsolicited submissions!
Our planned publication schedule every other month and will include two to four pieces of original fiction. We will also publish ebook issues, which will be available for sale in ePub format via our website and also available in other formats such as Kindle and Nook, for sale through all major vendors, including Amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. We will also offer subscriptions to our ebook edition in a variety of formats.
Jack Fisher is the former editor of the long-running print magazine, Flesh & Blood. During his tenure as editor and publisher, Flesh & Blood went on to win the Writer's Digest Best Zine award of 2002, as well as dozens of short fiction reprints in "Best Of" anthologies, and numerous award nominations, and accolades. Jack was also an assistant editor for Francis Ford Coppolla's online zine, ZOETROPE: ALL STORY.
Jack has a Bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in English Literature. He has a deep interest in strange, bizarre, offbeat, and fantastical fiction, and THE DARK has been his brain child for two years in the making. Having been widely published in over one hundred different professional fiction markets, Jack believes that every writer deserves the chance to be published - he refuses to close his doors to just the "big names", and wants everyone to have fair consideration.
Jack lives in South New Jersey where he works in the medical field.
Risks and challengesAll of the money raised by this project will go into issue #1 and with help lifting THE DARK Magazine onto its feet, specifically the huge cost of webhosting and web design. Anything left over will go for paying authors professional rates for their work (at least 5 cents per word or more), promotion, and artwork. Anything raised above and beyond our stated goal will go toward the production of future issues of THE DARK.
