Ginger Nuts of Horror
By Amber Fallon
The horror community is full of amazing people, people who go above and beyond to support the genre in a variety of ways. One such person is Christine Morgan.
Christine is an author, editor, reviewer, baker, and crafter and she puts all of her talents to good use in support of our amazing genre. Whether you know her from her books, like The Raven’s Table or Spermjackers from Hell, or from the Fossil Lake anthologies she puts together, from her many, many reviews for The Horror Fiction Review, or if you’ve been lucky enough to sample some of her amazing cookies or other baked goods, or even been the recipient of one of her amazing, handmade dolls, Christine’s mark on the horror community is undeniable. And now, she needs our help.
Christine has been struggling with cancer. She overcame thyroid cancer years ago, and now she’s dealing with a new form of cancer, which affects her nose and mouth. She’s had surgeries to help, suffered through radiation treatments, and through it all, kept a smile on her face, even through scars, pain, suffering, and exhaustion. She has still been giving her all to help and support the horror and bizarro communities and that’s pretty incredible.
Cancer sucks enough on its own, but when you add in the cost of surgeries, treatments, hospital stays, and ER visits, on top of the regular cost of just being alive, added to the fact that Christine has been unable to work due to her cancer treatments and recovery… well, that’s a lot to handle. And that’s where you come in.
A fundraiser has been started for Christine, to help cover some of those costs. Cancer sucks, there’s no way around that, but together, we can help make the situation suck just a little bit less for one of our own, someone who has tirelessly supported the community for years, and who deserves every bit of kindness we can show her, and then some.
Please, if you can, donate. Even a dollar helps. And if you can’t afford to contribute monetarily, you can help by spreading the word and sharing the fundraiser.
