Ginger Nuts of Horror
This is a bit different, rather than promoting a horror film or a horror book, I'm going to ask you to take a look and consider helping these guys out. I've done a lot of with Beverly and she is awesome.
LAB•B is home to a community of creative entrepreneurs and freelancers. We are Brampton’s first coworking space, and membership means an alternative to working at home or in a coffee shop, a chance to share ideas and build networks, a chance to collaborate on new opportunities and keep professional skills sharp.
Naturally over time we have become family, and the space has become our home.
Why are we crowdfunding?
On October 2nd, 2014, we were served a cease and desist letter by the owner of the building in which LAB•B was located. The letter asked us to stop doing business in the building; however, the reason that was given was inaccurate. After discussion with lawyers, we were assured that LAB•B had not violated any terms of the lease and had been clear at the outset that coworking was one of the purposes of the space. Still, it became clear to us that there was no way we could grow and thrive in an environment that would have us constantly walking on eggshells with a landlord who doesn’t understand.
Based on conversations with other coworking space owners and the feelings of our community members, we knew that the decision to leave was the right one. We couldn’t fulfill our goal of giving people a fun yet productive space to get work done, or continue to be a go-to place for hosting business and community events. Quite plainly, staying in the Old Shoe Factory (as beautiful as it was, and as great as our neighbours were,) became a risk to creating a culture that speaks to creatives, entrepreneurs, and innovators—and a risk to our very young business.
So we’re moving on, and we want you to be with us on the journey.
A Blessing in DisguiseAs it turns out, there is a silver lining: we have found a new location in the heart of downtown Brampton. Originally built in the late 19th Century, The Mill (60 Queen St. E) is a beautiful heritage building. With more space, a private office, and a boardroom, The Mill is a great location for the LAB•B community. We have spoken to our existing members and they all love the new space. We think you’ll love it, too.
