The Sinister Horror company is proud to announce that that they are publishing Death, an exclusive story collection by Paul Kane, with the official release coinciding with Edge Lit 6 (15th July 2017).
One man seeks desperately to understand what lies beyond, by searching for a particular face – while another returns to fight crime in his old city. Someone at the end of their tether contemplates the many ways in which to end it all, even as someone else defies all the laws of nature to come back from the grave. And as a deadly disease threatens to wipe out the population, four legendary figures meet for a final drink in a pub at the end of the world… It’s a subject not many of us want to talk about, but will all have to face at some point, and the characters in this very special collection do so in various ways: whether be as a person, a choice, or even as revenge. So join award-winning and bestselling author Paul Kane (Monsters, Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell) as he takes a look at Death from every angle.
Death also includes the script for the play version of ‘One for the Road’, an introduction from the author of The Beauty of Murder and Jonathan Dark or The Evidence of Ghosts, A.K. Benedict, and a stunning cover by legendary artist Les Edwards, this is one book you’ve all been dying for.
On writing the stories, Paul says:
“Death is quite an important and central, if terrifying, subject with regards to horror or genre fiction. With regards to being human, in fact. And with these stories I wanted to explore some of the many different aspects of Death, whether that’s as a concept or as a physical representation. Looking back, I realised I’d written about it a lot anyway in the last two decades, from one of my earliest tales – 2001’s ‘The Face of Death’ – right up to ‘One for the Road’, which I’d just turned into a play…the script of which you’ll also find in this collection for the first time. So, it was just a case of gathering these together, and adding some new stories to the mix: one a superhero take on the notion, which I thoroughly enjoyed writing, the other revolving around the world’s greatest assassin. The stories included cover a fair range, including a sequel to Poe’s ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ and my novella ‘The Lazarus Condition’, which comes at things from the other side of the equation. I’m delighted that it’s found a home with Dan and Justin at Sinister, and it’s been an absolute delight to work with them over the last few months. I’m equally delighted that the legend that is Les Edwards has let us use his artwork for the cover, and that the hugely talented A.K. Benedict is kindly providing the introduction. All in all, I think this one will be quite a special book indeed.”
