Ginger Nuts of Horror
Available now for preorder Merry Go Round and Other Words by Bryn Fortey
Bryn Fortey has been writing short stories and poems since the 1960s, from science fiction to horror and all points in between. His work appeared in seminal anthologies, such as The Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories and New Writings in Horror and the Supernatural. Forty plus years later The Alchemy Press presents Bryn's first collection, a comprehensive array of his best stories and poems. Stand out stories include the two "Shrewhampton" tales that bookend this collection. Merry-Go-Round includes an introduction by Johnny Mains.
Bryn was kind enough to this exclusive quote about the launch of the book
Back in the glory days of the 1970s, when a lifelong interest in words culminated in a number of short story sales, it never crossed my mind that it could ever be more than an interesting hobby. Quality issues aside, I was never prolific enough to harbour any thoughts of a fulltime career. Then, anyway, life took unexpected turns and writing took a back seat.
Fast forward to 2012 and Johnny Mains has dragged me, not unwillingly, into a world of independent publishers, themed anthologies, FantasyCons and I was writing again. Even so, when it was suggested, I doubted that I had sufficient material to justify a collection, but Peter Coleborn’s Alchemy Press was interested and proved a delight to work with, and it turned out I had written enough to fill a book.
I can’t say that ‘Merry-Go-Round’ is a dream come true because it was too unlikely to even dream about. Reigniting a desire to put words on paper has been very good for me personally. If I’d known that old age was going to be this much fun, I would have grown old quicker.
